Starting with a good hand makes the temptation of raising the bet rather more difficult to suppress, especially if you are playing online and your opponents are not showing signs of stronger hands. Raising is an art of its own in the game of poker and by mastering it you will be able to increase the amount of money you can win substantially.

The Aggressive Approach:

If you love to play aggressively, there is nothing wrong with raising before seeing the flop. The only thing to keep in mind when using this playing style is to never lose momentum; make sure you are ready to raise again after seeing the flop, particularly if the table cards are not what you are expecting.
Raising early (and by a substantial amount) will help reduce the number of opponents you are competing against early in the game. Those who start with moderate to weak hands will choose to fold instead, which means you have fewer opponents to focus on as the round progresses.
If the flop goes your way, you can also raise by another substantial amount. Since you are aggressive from the start, there will still be opponents who call your bet at this point.
Watch out for re-raises; observe the table cards carefully and make sure you are not dealing with a possibly stronger hand. If you are not absolutely sure about the strength of your hand compared to your opponents, it is much better to fold and cut your losses.

The Tight Approach:

The second approach is a bit subtler. Instead of raising early, you simply float through pre-flop and the flop. As your hand develops and becomes the strongest possible hand for the round, you can gently raise the bet or let other opponents do all the heavy lifting for you.
There are two benefits this approach is offering. First, playing tightly allows you to limit your risks closely. You can still raise after the turn or the river, or you can choose to lure your opponents by simply calling the big blind.
The second benefit is unpredictability. After the reveal, the surprise your hand brings to your opponents will make you that much more unpredictable to their eyes. You will have no trouble continuing the strategy or switching to a more irregular approach later on in the game in an effort to increase your profitability even further throughout the game of online poker.
